Fighting The Darkness

As I look at the skies
the sun is sinking low
the night is falling fast
and I have no where to go.

I close the blinds and the doors
but I find that I'm too late
it's invited itself in
dreams have opened up their gate.

As the hands of darkness reach for me
I shy and back away
I know there's no escaping it now
for its erased my day.

I try to avoid it but I know
in the end it will win
sleep will over take my mind
and let your shadows in.

It's not that I don't wanna dream
oh baby you know I do
but when they end they disappear
taking with them you.

My dreams bring you near to me
even though we're far apart
but they can never duplicate
the love that's in my heart.

I'll succumb to my dreams
if that's for now how it must be
I'll treasure them until that day
you're lying here next to me.
